Long Description:This building completed in 1951 to serve the research department of
the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID). Under Dr. Hallowell
Davis, the CID became a world-renowned center for hearing research.
Much of the early research conducted in this building was due to
the large number of World War II veteran who suffered hearing loss.
The research conducted in this building imporved conditions for
military personnel, helped deaf people to communicate with the
hearing workd and laid the foundation for further technology
advances to which allow the deaf to hear. The CID moved from this
building to a new facility in 1999. The building is now used by the
St. Louis College of Health Careers.
