"Der Campener Leuchtturm ist ein Bauwerk mit großer Strahlkraft. Er sieht nicht nur so aus wie der kleine Bruder vom Pariser Eiffelturm, sondern er ist auch noch im selben Jahr erbaut worden.
Knapp 30 Seemeilen, rund 55 Kilometer, weit schickt er sein Licht in die dunkle Nacht aufs offene Meer hinaus. Der Turm ist nicht nur Deutschlands höchster, sondern auch das stärkste deutsche Leuchtfeuer und somit das bedeutendste in der Emsmündung. Der Leuchtturm Campen an der Ems dient als Tagesmarke und nachts als Leitfeuer zur Fahrt großer Schiffe durch das Randzelgat. (..)Der Strom für den Betrieb der Lampen wurde im Maschinenhaus der Leuchtfeueranstalt Campen erzeugt – zunächst durch Dampfmaschinen, die im Jahr 1906 durch zwei einzylindrige Dieselmotoren mit 20 PS Leistung ersetzt wurden. Noch heute steht einer der beiden Dieselmotoren – einzig in
seiner Art – an seinem ursprünglichen Platz. Es ist einer der letzten noch zu Lebzeiten von Rudolf Diesels (1858 – 1913) erbaute Dieselmotor, der regelmäßig zum Tag des Denkmals im September noch in Betrieb genommen wird."

"Campen Lighthouse is an active lighthouse in the village Campen, by the Ems estuary, northwest of Emden, in the East Frisia region, state of Lower Saxony, Germany. At a height of 213 feet (65 m) it is the fourteenth tallest "traditional lighthouse" in the world and the tallest in Germany. The structure consists of a free-standing lattice tower with the stair shaft inside. The lighthouse was built in 1889 and went in service in 1891. The lamp of Campen Lighthouse has a light intensity of 4.5 million candelas, the most powerful lighthouse lamp in Germany. Remarkably, the aperture of its flashing light to the left and right has an angle of only 0.3 degrees. The continuous light aperture is also quite small, less than 0.6 degrees.
The machine building contains the oldest workable diesel engine in Germany. It was built in 1906 and has a power of 15 kilowatts."
