From the junction at milepost 12.60 on U.S. Hwy. 20 east of Bend, go south along the old alignment of the highway (pre 1970) for 0.70 miles, then turn right along the Old Bend-Burns Road (pre 1927 route) and go south another 1.30 miles to the location. The benchmark is located about 50 feet WSW of road centerline and 9 feet east of a large juniper tree in the top of a lava ledge. The cap is set about an inch below the rock surface. Benchmark set by U.S. Coast and Geological Survey in 1943.

THIS MARK IS ABOUT 13.0 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 20 AND ABOUT 1.2 MILES SOUTH ALONG THE OLD BEND-BURNS ROAD FROM THE RAILWAY STATION AT BEND, DESCHUTES COUNTY, SET AT A POINT WHERE ROAD REACHES SUMMIT OF RISE, IN THE TOP OF A LAVA LEDGE, 9.0 FEET EAST OF A 36-INCH JUNIPER TREE, 50.0 FEET WEST SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, 3.0 FEET WEST OF A WHITE REFERENCE POST.
