"The Algarve Line is a railway that traverses the area of the Algarve in Portugal, linking the railway stations in Lagos and Vila Real de Santo António.
In 1858, began the discussion on the continuation of the South Line (currently Alentejo Line ) from Beja , to the Algarve ; in 1864, a contract was signed between the Company of South Railways and Southeast and the Portuguese state, to perform this work.
The train connection to Faro was completed on February 21, 1889, but the inauguration took place only on 1 July of that year."

At this point the rail line is running near to the coast through an area of a nature reserve. The bridge is just to the south east of Faro station and it passes Faro Marina on a raised embankment and then crosses the marina outlet.
Part of the bridge is an old stone arch, but the longest part of the structure is a girder bridge.
