At the age of 106, Plumas County lost one of its eldest residents. On Wednesday morning Sept. 12, Horace Hoffman Fitzpatrick peacefully passed from this life in his sleep, at his residence in East Quincy, CA.
Born in Cucamonga, California on Dec. 12, 1905 to the late John and Willie (Hoffman) Fitzpatrick, at a young age Horace and his family moved to Vallejo, CA., where he was raised and educated graduating from Vallejo High School as a member of the "Class of 1925". Following his graduation Horace began what became a 35 year career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in the mid 1960's as a Substation Supervisor.
After meeting Lucille Sears on a blind date at a local dance in Vallejo the couple was united in matrimony in Carson City, NV., in June of 1934.
Horace moved from Vallejo to Quincy in 2002 to be closer to family. While residing in Vallejo he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and after moving to Quincy attended Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Horace was an avid bowler and while residing in Vallejo was recognized nationally as being a member of the oldest combined age bowling team in the United States. Always up for the challenge he took a ride in an ultra light aircraft at the age of 100. He also enjoyed the sport of target shooting and as a young teen earned the title of sharpshooter. He also liked to enjoy the outdoors fishing.
In passing Horace leaves his son, Ron Fitzpatrick and his wife Sandy of Quincy, CA.; daughter, Sharon Hendrix and her husband Byron of Kailua, HI.; six grand and nine great grandchildren.
Along with his wife Lucille he joins a brother, Harold ; and sister, Emma in their eternal home.
A Celebration of Horace's life is being planned and will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Quincy, CA. A date and time will be announced at a later date.
