Information from Mermaids of Earth

Statue named "Pearl of the Conchos" is a mermaid offering a Concho pearl as a gesture of welcome to the city. In this area, a freshwater mussel species produces lustrous pearls in many colors, famous since the time of the Spanish conquistadors. Artist Garland Weeks rendered this enlarged casting of an original sculpture by Jayne Charless Beck. It was placed here June 11, 1994.
