A sequoia tree resides at the corner of Broadway and Patten and contains a plaque near its base that reads:

PLANTED BY R.B. LYON 1865
DEDICATED BY THE
NATIVE DAUGHTERS OF THE GOLDEN WEST
TO THE PIONEER MOTHERS OF SONOMA
DECEMBER 25 1929
SONOMA PARLOR 209

I tried to do a little research on R.B. Lyon and all I could find online was that he married a Harriet Akers in 1857. He's also mentioned in the Illustrated History of Sonoma County, California from 1889 in which he took on a partnership with a Mr. McHarvey in 1855 for a blacksmith and carriage shop, the second one of its kind in Sonoma at the time. He retired from the business in 1860.

Location of the tree: Corner of Broadway and Patten

Type of tree: sequoia
