This work is one of dozens of pieces by Icelandic artist Ásmundur Sveinsson for whom the adjacent Museum is named.
It is entitled "Modir min i Kvi kvi" for which I could find no translation other than the first word which means "Mother". However, the phrase seems to be related to some well-known Icelandic ghost story. See (

The 1943 work depicts a nude woman sitting or squatting...almost in a position of childbirth. But an infant of about a year old is between her legs with his arms on her legs and looking up at her.
