The Iguazu National Park attracts over 2 million visitors each year from around the world.
A Nature Interpretation Center (also used as the visitors center) is located just inside the entrance to the park and orientates the visitor as well as providing education on the nature, geology, endangered species, history and resources of this rain forest park.
Four trails and a rain forest train have been developed for visitors to experience the park, with the secondary purpose of controlling the environmental impact of 2 million visitor a year. Access to the trails are by cleared and often sometimes paved trails that route visitors to unique and interesting sites; the Green Trail is a handicap accessible trail of about 655 meters (716 yards) that allows visitors to see and experience the paranese rain forest wetland, fauna and wildlife. Visitors to this trail expect to see numerous birds, coat-is, and CAI monkeys.
The Upper Trail is an easy trail, no stairs, and about 1,750 meters (1913 yards) that leads to a half-moon shaped panoramic view of a chain of waterfalls, the roaring river and glimpses of the Brazilian side of the waterfalls. Visitors walk on metal gangways at the very edge of the waterfalls, and can expect to experience mist or water spray. The view is spectacular.
The Lower Circuit Trail is a bit more strenuous, at 1,700 meters (1,859 yards) and some steep terrain and stairs, taking the visitor past Dos Hermanas, Chico and Ramirez Falls before guiding the visitor to within 20 meters of the Bosetti Waterfalls, on the return to the trail head.
The Macucu and Arrecheas Waterfall trail is the longest, taking about 3 hours to complete, and is about 7,000 meters (7,655 yards) in length. The visitor will be entering a dark,thick forest and the visitor will want to watch for forest animals as well as butterflies, reptiles and birds. Monkeys are often seen here.
The biggest attraction of the park is Devil's Throat, a spectacular and majestic waterfall accessed via the Rain-forest Train which deposits the visitor at the entrance to a 1,100 meter series of walkway/gangways that hopscotch across the river islands to the 80 foot deep chasm where the wall of river water plunges with great velocity and fury. Watch for the thousands of birds, called swifts, which fly behind the falls to nest, a spectacular site. Note the metal gangway is designed for the rainy season, when the gangway is dislocated from its piers by the flooding river, and reset into place as weather permits.
