Blasterz noticed these two tombstones in a far corner of Old larissa Cemetery enclosed by modern pipe fencing. When we explored further, we found inside the fencing one reconstructed homemade tombstone for William Cobb, and a nearby grave covered by a pile of the same types of local stone for Malissa Dublin.
There are two signs on the metal pole fencing as follows:
"MALISSA DURBIN
Born Apr. 11 1861
Died Feb. 28, 1864"
and
"COLE
William Bibb Cole, Jr.
Born: Sept, 11, 1795 Louisa Co. VA
Died: Sept. 3 1857 in Cherokee Co. TX
Came to Texas in 1849 from Fayette Co. AL and settled on a farm 5 miles NW of Larissa on the Neches River"
Malissa Durbin's grave is marked by a pile of broken stones.
But the same kind of broken stones have been reassembled and cemented together so that the hand-inscribed words on his tombstone are readable:
"WILLIAM COLE Jr
Was born Sept. 11 1795
Died Sept. 3 1857"
It seems likely that there has been some genealogy dome of William Cole, but we have not been able to find out anything about the little toddler buried next to him.
Date of Birth: 11 Sep 1795
Date of Death: 3 Sep 1857
Material: Stone
