Captured Russian 68-pounder 8-inch muzzle cannon on display at the front of the Ontario Legislature.

The guns were a gift from Queen Victoria to the City of Toronto in 1859. These are the type of guns melted down to create the Victoria Cross medals, the British Empire's highest award for valour. The guns were originally positioned at the south end of Queen's Park, but were moved to their present location in 1892 following completion of the Ontario Legislature.

The inscriptions on the cement base, in English and Latin, reads:

Taken at the capture of Sebastopol
by the allied armies of Great Britain and France
and presented by
QUEEN VICTORIA
to the citizens of Toronto
A.D. MDCCCLIX

This particular gun was involved in the Siege of Sebastopol, following the Russian defeat at the Battle of Inkerman.

Markings indicate it was cast in 1840 by the Aleksandrovsky foundry.
