DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 14.7 MI N FROM CRESCENT LAKE. ABOUT 14.7 MILES NORTH ALONG THE ELK LAKE ROAD FROM THE RAILROAD STATION AT CRESCENT LAKE, KLAMATH COUNTY, 4.3 MILES NORTH OF DAVIS LAKE RANGER STATION, 25.0 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ELK LAKE ROAD, SET IN THE TOP OF A BOULDER ON THE SOUTH END OF A CURVE, 7.0 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A TRIANGULAR BLAZED SUGAR PINE TREE.
This description is out of date but the location is shown on the USGS Davis Mountain quadrangle. The benchmark can be reached from the junction of the Cascade Lakes Hwy. and F.S. Rd. 4660. From the junction go southwest on F.S. Rd. 4660 for about a mile and then west on F.S. Rd. 4654 for 0.35 miles and finally southeast of F.S. Rd. 4654060 for about a half mile. The benchmark is located about 300 feet south of the road along the dim historic road trace. There is a white survey sign on a lodgepole pine snag about 35 feet east of the benchmark. It looks like the outcrop was hit by a piece of equipment and the rock the benchmark is in has been shifted several feet.
