NGS PID PB0509 - (visit link)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1942 10.2 MI N FROM ODELL LAKE LODGE. ALONG ELK LAKE ROAD, 3.4 MILES NORTHEAST OF DAVIS LAKE RANGER STATION. 35 FEET NORTHWEST OF CENTER LINE OF ROAD, 4 FOOT ABOVE ROAD LEVEL, IN LARGE BOULDER WITH B.M. PAINTED ON SIDE.
This description is out of date but the location is shown on the USGS Davis Mountain quadrangle. The benchmark can be reached from the junction of the Cascade Lakes Hwy. and F.S. Rd. 4660. From the junction go southwest on F.S. Rd. 4660 for about 3 miles and then south on F.S. Rd. 4660096 for 0.10 miles to its end and park. Hike south along the old historic road trace for about 0.05 miles to the location of PB0509 which is about 35 feet west of the road trace. Look for the rock with the painted BM on its side.
