Benchmark set by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1942. The benchmark is located off F.S. Rd. 4660 an early road from Odell Lake to Elk Lake (replaced by today’s Cascade Lakes Hwy).
NGS PID PB0513 - (visit link)
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 9.9 MI N FROM CRESCENT LAKE. ABOUT 9.9 MILES NORTH ALONG THE ELK LAKE ROAD FROM THE RAILROAD STATION AT CRESCENT LAKE, KLAMATH COUNTY, 0.3 MILE SOUTH OF THE DAVIS LAKE RANGER STATION, 0.1 MILE NORTHEAST OF A ROAD LEADING NORTH, 45.0 FEET SOUTH OF SECTION LINE 3 AND 10 SIGN ON TREE, 25.0 FEET SOUTHEAST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ELK LAKE ROAD, 2.0 FEET NORTHWEST OF A WHITE REFERENCE POST.
This description is out of date but the location is shown on the USGS Hamner Butte quadrangle. The benchmark can be reached from the junction of F.S. Rds. 4660, 4664, and 4668 south east of Davis Lake. From the junction go northeast on F.S. Rd. 4660 for 1.15 miles and park. The area has been burned over and the old historic road is no longer passable. From here the benchmark is located about 0.17 miles to the east, about 25 feet southeast of the trace of the old road.
