Benchmark set by the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey in 1942. The benchmark is located along F.S. Rd. 4668 an early road from Odell Lake to Elk Lake (replaced by today’s Cascade Lakes Hwy).

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 6.0 MI N FROM CRESCENT LAKE. ABOUT 6.0 MILES NORTH OF THE RAILROAD STATION AT CRESCENT LAKE, KLAMATH COUNTY, ABOUT 2.0 MILES NORTH OF STATE HIGHWAY 58, 0.25 MILE WEST OF A WOODEN BRIDGE OVER A CREEK, 18.0 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ELK LAKE ROAD, PROJECTING ABOUT 6-INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND, 2.0 FEET SOUTH OF A WHITE REFERENCE POST.
This description is out of date but the location is correctly shown on the USGS Odell Lake quadrangle. The benchmark can be reached from the junction of F.S. Rds. 4660, 4664, and 4668 south east of Davis Lake. From the junction go southwest on F.S. Rd. 4668 for 2.7 miles to location of PB0517. The benchmark is located about 18 feet north of road centerline.
