Sole Street is a small village in Kent. The nearest larger villages nearby are Cobham and Meopham. This rail line was built and opened on 1st February 1861. Even while the rail line was being built, it was undecided where to build a station. Cobham was the obvious choice as this was the 'larger' village. The station at Cobham was never built as the then land owner, Lord Darnley' forbid it, so Sole Street staion was born.

A little bit of history, which also mentions the de-railment in 1897 is here (visit link)

Further history can can found in some folders inside the rail station.
