An ugly scene from yesterday.
Wehoville reports that three men entered a Starbucks in West Hollywood yesterday and began hurling slurs at the mostly gay clientele.
Luckily the sheriff’s station is nearby, because the verbal abuse quickly got physical and turned out on to the sidewalk. Wehoville interviewed several people on site, detailing a story that begins around 11 a.m. when three men entered the Starbucks, presumably looking to cause a ruckus. They stood in line only long enough to be ‘overheard’ using several slurs and, when confronted by the manager, began pitching a real fit, screaming and pointing aggressively at customers.
From there, the guys moved outside with a few customers hot on their heels. More words were exchanged, and some drinks were thrown, but the cops got a hold of things pretty quickly. In the end, both sides declined to file charges — the drink-throwing would have resulted in mutual arrests, it seems — and the abusers were released to their own devices.
Still, it’s a scary scene that could have gone down much differently. West Hollywood has had problems in the past with keeping a handle on their crime problem, from transient assaults to hit and runs to late night robberies to other attacks that may well be anti-gay related."
