"Bruce Edwards (November 16, 1954 – April 8, 2004) was a long-time caddie for Hall of Fame golfer Tom Watson.
Edwards began caddying for Watson in 1973 and worked with him until 1989. Edwards left to assist Greg Norman but returned to Watson's side in 1992 and stayed until 2003. That year, he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease) but continued to caddie for Watson until the strain became too much.
His life is chronicled in Caddy For Life: The Bruce Edwards Story (ISBN 0-316-77788-9) written by his biographer John Feinstein.
At the age of 49, Edwards succumbed to ALS at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida."

"EDWARDS Bruce - Jay Edwards, 49, died Thursday at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach. From the last day of high school in the spring of 1973 Bruce became a professional caddy for life, a job he had always dreamed having. During that summer he became Tom Watson's caddy for whom he worked nearly 30 years with a threeyear stint working for the world's number one golfer, Greg Norman. The victories he helped win included more than 40 worldwide, with his most cherished the 1982 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. His legacy will always remain his fastidious charm, honesty and sharp wit with which he enriched all those lives he touched. Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Marsha; his parents, Jay and Natalie; his stepchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Brice and Avery; his brother, Brian (Laurie); sisters Chris (John) Kutcher and Gwyn (Lenny) Dieterle; 5 nieces and nephews and not to be forgotten his beloved dogs, Nabby and Hope. The family will receive friends from 58 p.m. Saturday and Sunday evenings at HARD AGEGIDDENS FUNERAL HOME 1701 BEACH BLVD. JACKSONVILLE BEACH and at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Ponte Vedra Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Church with Rev. Dean Bouzeos officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike (Bull) Rich, Greg (Boats) Rita, Tom Watson, Billy Leahy, Tim (Smiley) Thalmueller and Brian Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Michael Watson, Drew Micelli, Gary (Grits) Crandall, Jeff (Boo) Burrell, Taylor Cummins, Paul Fusco, Jeff (Dolff) Dolff, Billy Hough, Mike (Fluff) Cowan, Steve (Hulk) Hulka, Tony Navarro, Neil (Ox) Oxman, Lin (Growler) Strickler, Lamar Haynes, Mike (Shemp) Boyce, Dennis (Disco) Turning, Eddie (Hymer) Fletcher and Mike (Hixie) Hicks. Interment will follow in Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggestions donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida."
