Lake Waco has had two dams. This current dam was completed in 1965.

The first dam was built in 1926 creating the original Lake Waco. The small amount of water wasn't enough to keep water flowing in Waco taps. The second dam built by the Corp of Engineers was larger and it was completed in 1965. It was built immediately downstream and a new lake formed that inundated the old lake and dam structure.
