I must admit that the headstone for supercentenarian Jennie A. Gross is a bit of a mystery. The birth year is clearly inscribed as 1831. The 3 is very clear. Yet the other person who shares the headstone, George F. was born 40 years later in 1871. Perhaps he is a grandson who cared for her in her later years. Since we do not know what month she was born in, nor which month of 1943 in which she died; I have conservatively used 111 as the age at which she died. She may have been 112 years old.

She was born a full 30 years before the US Civil War, and died while World War II was in progress. What an amazing amount of history she witnessed!
