The summit of Maiden Peak is at an elevation of 7,818 feet and is reached by a trail from the east (about 9.5 miles round trip) with about 2900 feet of elevation gain. The trailhead is located at the end of F.S. Rd. 4664100 (N 43° 36.193’ W 121° 54.797’).
Maiden Peak is the summit of a small shield volcano (about 4 to 5 miles in diameter) that was formed between 120,000 to 25,000 years ago (Sherrod, D.R. and Smith, J.G., 2000, Geologic Map of Upper Eocene to Holocene Volcanic and related rocks of the Cascade Range, Oregon, USGS Map I-2569)
The northeast flank of the summit cone was carved away by glaciers during the last ice age forming a large cirque.
From the summit there is a 360° view. Along the Cascade Range crest the view includes Mt. Scott (to south) in Crater Lake National Park, Mt. Thielsen, Diamond Peak, Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, the Three Sisters and Mt. Jefferson (to north). To the east the broad shape of Newberry Volcano is visible. Also visible are Odell, Crescent, Summit, Davis and Waldo Lakes plus Wickiup and Crane Prairie Reservoirs.
