ABOUT THE SIGN:
This black metal sign was created to look like a large razor blade (which, perhaps intentionally, also happens to look a little like a theater ticket). There is a silhouette cut out of the center of the sign. The following text is also cut out of the sign: "Von Krahli Teater", "1992" and "Puhas Kunst" (English: Pure Art).
ABOUT THE BAR:
"In the early 90-s von Krahl became the first privately owned theatre in Tallinn. Now it’s well known as a center of Estonian avant-garde culture and independent music. As in Tallinn the alternative music stage is really mixed, in von Krahl you can get rock and heavy music gigs, the oldest reggae and hip hop parties like Bashment and Check One Two, house/electro sessions of Mutant Disco nights and many others. A first gig at von Krahl is probably like a ritual of initiation to the alternative music scene in Estonia for any of the young local instrumental bands.
On the second floor they have a theatre, which is pretty entertaining and ironic. Sometimes on Saturdays they organize a second-hand market of old vinyls and records, then it’s time to search for some rarities and have a friendly chat with fellas hanging around.
And yeah, after a renovation in summer-autumn 2013 this place now has a smart look from the outside with razors on the facade. The lovely open terrace, cheap bar, good food and democratic atmosphere are still there, so take your necktie off before you enter."
