This bridge carries the Apache Trail, also known as State Route 88, over Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake is a reservoir on the Salt River northeast of Phoenix. The bridge is very narrow. Traffic is one way only, leaving drivers to take turns. The highway follows the original mule trail built for the construction of the Roosevelt dam, upstream. The mule trail approximates an ancient native trail through the area. The bridge is heavily used by recreational boaters heading for Canyon Lake or one of three other lakes on the Salt River.
