An evocative statue of a doughboy and his wounded or dead comrade in the heat of battle, and perhaps at the moment of their deaths, installed in Fort Worth's Veteran's Memorial park in 1987 by WWI veterans in honor of all war veterans

This is one of the most moving war memorials in Fort Worth's Veteran's Memorial Park. A doughboy carries his dead comrade, his rifle flying out of his hand from the force of the bullet that has just impacted his body, causing him to collapse and die. In this gripping image, we see all of war's selflessness, heroism, and tragedy.
The base of the memorial reads as follows:
"[west side]
DUTY
Dedicated To The Memory Of All Veterans By Veterans Of World War I, USA
Department Of Texas November 11, 1987
Marion B Irland Department Commander
E.L.Sprague P.N.C. Quartermaster
[south side]
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields."
