In 1961, the senior class of SMU gave their university a large bronze seal to commemorate the 50th year since the university was chartered. Today (2015), that seal shines in a restored Dallas Hall, once again the crown jewel of SMU.
The dedication plaque reads as follows:
"The seal of the University in the center of this rotunda was presented by the Class of 1961 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the granting of the Southern Methodist University’s Charter."
