This road bridge crosses the Leeds Liverpool Canal and was rebuilt in 1936, presumably because the volume of traffic had increased since the canal was completed in 1816

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

The bridge is numbered 91B as counted from the Liverpool end of the canal.

The date is carved into the stone parapet of the bridge on the road side rather than the canal side.
