The house is a brick construction and 1 1/2 stories high. John Brickett was one of the original settlers in the area and built this house. It is the only example of 19th century dwelling located on public land within the Cold River Valley. It is noteworthy that Brickett built such a substantial structure on land he did not own. Arriving in 1803, he built a log cabin and cleared land for crops. He began construction on the brick house in 1812 and finished 4 years later.
