Henry Lyman was born in Northampton, MA on November 23, 1809. He was a Baptist missionary of the American Board. He was murdered along with his associate Samuel Munson by the local Batak tribe in Sacca village, Lobu Pining, Tarutung, Sumatra on June 28, 1834. His marble grave marker in Bridge Street Cemetery is inscribed:
