This medieval city gate of Waldshut was the city jail until 1864.

EN: The Upper Gate or Schaffhausertor is the eastern gate of the old city of Waldshut and one of its landmarks. The foundations date back to the 13th century. On the top floor was the office of the tower warden who could monitor from there the city and the river at the same time.

Until 1864 in the tower also contained the city jail.

DE: Das Obere Tor oder Schaffhausertor ist das östliche Tor der Altstadt von Waldshut und eines ihrer Wahrzeichen. Die Fundamente stammen noch aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Im obersten Stockwerk war die Stube des Turmwärters, der von da die Stadt und den Fluss zugleich überwachen konnten.

Bis 1864 war in dem Turm auch das Stadtgefängnis untergebracht.
