The house was designed by Ezio Garroni in 1909. The building is one of the best examples of Art Nouveau (Liberty) in Rome.

The decoration makes use of an elegant stylization of baroque elements. The four allegorical female figures, placed under the overhanging roof, including Justice and Science, allude to the activity of the owners, the brothers Astengo.
