Mrs. Nancy Herrington Answers Final Call

Friday of last week at her home near Opal City, occurred the death of Mrs. Nancy L. Herrington, wife of Jacob Herrington. The deceased was sick only a short time, Friday afternoon, having a stroke of paralysis, from which she did not ralley. This was not the first one that she has had during the past two years, however she had been feeling exceptionally well for several weeks past.

She was married to Mt. Herrington in July of last year, after having lived on and proved up on a homestead near her late home. Her former name being Nancy L. Lemon and her maiden name was Nancy L. Kerr. She was born in April 1853, in the state of Pennsylvania coming west after her marriage. By profession Mrs. Herrington was a trained nurse, and had followed that profession for a number of years before her last marriage. For a number of years she has been a member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral was held at the home of Mr. Herrington, and was one of the largest attended funerals in this section. Services held at the grave in the Grey Butte Cemetery, and Rev. B. L. Hicks of Madras officiated.

Mrs. Jacob Herrington Dies at her late Home near Opal City

The death of Mrs. Jacob Herrington, Friday evening at six o'clock, came as a great shock to her many friends. Her death was caused by a second stroke of paralysis, the first having taken place some time ago while she was visiting friends in Portland. She had recovered sufficiently from the second stroke to return to her home near Opal City last Wednesday morning. A new house had been built during her absence. On Friday evening during the absence of Mr. Herrington, she suffered a second stroke and he found her unconscious upon his return. A doctor was summoned, but he arrived too late, as the Grim Reaper had out traveled him.

Nancy L. Kerr was born in Pennsylvania in 1853; she was married July 31st, 1913 to Jacob Herrington. Funeral and internment was in the Grey Butte Cemetery. The services were conducted by Elder B. L. Hicks of Culver.

Incidentally, the town of Opal City mentioned in the obituaries is gone and doesn't exist anymore.
