Samuel George William Archibald was born in Truro in 1777. He studied law in Halifax and then went on to serve 35 years in the colonial Nova Scotia Assembly. In his later years in the Assembly he served 15 years as Speaker of the Assembly. Upon leaving the Assembly, he was appointed to the Bench.
He died in 1846.
Marker is affixed to the front left of the Colchester County Courthouse entrance, 1 Church Street in Truro.

SAMUEL GEORGE WILLIAM ARCHIBALD
1777 - 1846
Born in Truro, educated in Massachusetts, Archibald
studied law in Halifax before entering Nova Scotia
politics. He served in the Assembly (1806-1841), In
1841 he became Judge of the Court of Vice-Admiralty
and Master of the Rolls. A moderate in politics,
Archibald was a respected Speaker of the Assembly
for fifteen years while keeping on good terms with
successive Governors and Colonial Secretaries.
Always conscious of propriety and property, he was,
by 1840, put of tune with the more vigorous side of
the Reform movement.
