Culver resident Jimmy Dean Cates died at his home Sept. 29, of cancer. He was 52.
Mr. Cates was born March 1, 1947 in Jayton, Texas, to parents Addie and Alta (Howard) Cates. On March 10, 1979 he married his wife, Bonnie, in Seattle, Wash.
The couple moved to Culver in 1994 from Anacordes, Wash. He had worked for the past 12 years as a meat cutter for Safeway stores, and was the head meat cutter at the Madras Safeway.
He loved the outdoors, especially fly fishing and bow hunting. He had an interest in black powder rifles and leather tanning, and enjoyed working in the garden. he was a member of the Madras Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Cates of Culver; children, Douglas Cates of Lakeview, Jason Aldrich of Culver, Michael-Angelo Valenzuela of Mississippi, and Crystal Hollingsworth of Prineville; brothers, Don Cates of Lakeview, Ron Cates of Springfield, Harold Cates of Woodenburrough, Texas, and Howard Cates of Emmett, Calif.; sisters, Midge Letner of Texas, Helen Bledshaw of Klamath Falls, Lily Faye of Regner, Ill., Barbara Adams of Phoenix, Ark., and Joy Martin of Boise, Idaho; and two grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by three brothers.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at the Madras Assembly of God Church, officiated by Pastor Lee McCloud. Burial was at the Grey Butte Cemetery in Culver. Arrangements were under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial funeral Home of Madras.
Memorial contributions have been suggested to Hospice of Redmond and Sisters.
