In Belfast, of U.S. 1, is the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Scenic Railroad.

Getting to the railroad terminal is a bit of a challenge - there are no signs directing you from the U.S. 1. From the intersection of U.S. 1 and Maine Route 3, go north a half mile to the next exit on Maine Route 137 away from Belfast and toward City Point. Follow the wide road for a couple miles to the depot and other equipment on the right.

The scenic ride starts from this location. The train continues north, crossing the road and continuing through varied terrain that includes woods, brooks, pastures, and fields. The ride goes for about a half hour, then turns around and returns to the start.

During the Common Ground Country Fair, the train takes people to the fair grounds. There are other special excursions, as well, including a fall foliage tour, and The Great Maine Apple Day where you are transported to a farm.

While the railroad doesn't off full meal trips, there is a Cider Donut trip where donuts are provided.
