This state historic marker is at the base of stairs leading up to an unfortunately vandalized concrete memorial to Isaac Kountz, a 16-year-old boy who was killed by Indians while herding livestock for his father in this area on Christmas Eve, 1867.
The marker is located on US 377 at Rocksprings Road, near the Junction Cemetery.

Marker Text: Killed on this spot by Indians on Christmas Eve, 1867. He was 16 years old, and herding sheep for his father, Dr. E. K. Kountz. A brother, Sebastian, age 11, escaped. A posse and Texas Rangers chased the Indians to the Guadalupe River. Young Kountz was buried in Junction Cemetery. (1967)
