This simple police memorial is located at the spot where Texas Department of Public safety Sgt. James Dalrymple, a veteran of the narcotics division, tragically lost his life in a mobile accident on 5 June 1978.

Sgt. Dalrymple was an officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
About 2:45 a.m. on June 5, 1978, Narcotics Sergeant Dalrymple radioed that he was "cold trailing" a pickup truck with three suspects. About one minute later Dalrymple accidentally dropped his police radio microphone and it jammed under his brake pedal just as he approached a curve on U.S. 290 near Fredricksburg. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. He was killed on impact from multiple fractures and internal injuries. His body was discovered about 40 minutes later by another narcotics agent.
Dalrymple was survived by his wife and two sons.
