The elaborate and elegant Woodman of the World tombstone for James Davis, at the Sonora Cemetery off the I-10 service road north of downtown Sonora TX.
This marker has all the WoW decorations on it: the tall tree trunk, the WoW seal, the adze, the hatchet and mallet, the scroll, a morning dove, an Easter lily, and a touching epitaph.
The tombstone text reads as follows:
"JAMES L. DAVIS
Born
Feb. 22, 1855
Died
July 20, 1914
This simple tablet markes a father's bier. And those he loved in life are near."
