This sign is one of 22 along water Street on the west side of the Sutton County Courthouse. This sign preserves the history of The Albert Cauthorn family.
The sign reads as follows:
"ALBERT R. CAUTHORN
1845-1920
Driving 1000 head of sheep, A. R. Cauthorn , with 9-year-old son, James Albert, and brother Dan came from Missouri to Abilene in 1882. Wife Marcina Green Cauthorn died in MO., son Bob came to TX. In 1891, unhappy with the land, A, R. drifted south, settling in Sutton Co. In 1887. He married Luella Seales in 1886 in Snyder. Their children were Stella (Altizer), Ida, Bill, Dan, John, and Mack. The land is still owned and operated in 1990 by A. R.’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Sutton Co. and Val Verde Co. Albert Russell Cauthorn left a legacy of integrity, fairness, and honest dealing.
