I recovered this U.S. Geological Survey BM/Triangulation Station from 1932 in good condition. Is is monumented on a low-lying boulder at a slant. USGS reference marks 1 and 2 were also recovered nearby. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for station recoverey with the exception that the to-reach info is obsolete. The best way to get to this station is to take Sheepy Creek Rd off of Hwy 97 and proceed east then SE until you see a water tank (well) and a small corral to the right. There will be a 4x4 track road that you can drive up to within 300 or so yards from the ridge top and station and then pack the rest of the way. High-clearance vehicle necessary. My more accurate coordinates should place you close to these survey marks.
NGS datasheet info:
01/01/1932 by USGS (MONUMENTED)
01/01/1948 by CGS (GOOD)
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1948 (WRH) THE STATION IS ON A LOW BRUSHY AND ROCKY RIDGE THAT RUNS NORTHEAST TO SOUTHWEST. IT IS ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHWEST EDGE OF LOWER KLAMATH LAKE, ABOUT 3 MILES SOUTH OF THE OREGON STATE BOUNDARY, AND ABOUT 4 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF THE TOWN OF DORRIS. THE STATION MARK IS A STANDARD U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TRIANGULATION STATION MARK DISK THAT IS SET IN THE TOP OF AN OUTCROP OF BEDROCK THAT PROJECTS ABOUT 10 INCHES ABOVE THE GENERAL SURFACE OF THE GROUND. THE MARK IS UNSTAMPED. REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 1 IS A STANDARD U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TRIANGULATION REFERENCE MARK DISK THAT IS SET IN AN OUTCROP OF BEDROCK THAT PROTRUDES ABOUT 3 FEET IN THE SHAPE OF A RIM THAT PARALLELS THE TOP OF THE RIDGE. THE MARK IS STAMPED NO 1 DORRIS RIDGE 1932. REFERENCE MARK NUMBER 2 IS A STANDARD U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY TRIANGULATION REFERENCE MARK DISK THAT IS SET IN THE TOP OF AN OUTCROP OF BEDROCK THAT PROJECTS ABOVE THE GROUND ABOUT 3 FEET. THE MARK IS STAMPED NO 2 DORRIS RIDGE 1932. MEASUREMENTS AND DIRECTIONS WERE TAKEN TO THE CENTER OF THE ARROWS ON THE REFERENCE MARKS. STATION ZEBRA CAN BE USED FOR AZIMUTH FROM THIS STATION. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THAT STATION SEE THE DESCRIPTION OF SAME. THE STATION CAN BE REACHED FROM THE RAILROAD DEPOT IN THE TOWN OF DORRIS BY GOING EAST ON A GRADED ROAD FOR 4.8 MILES TO A STEEL GATE NEAR A BOARD CORRAL ON THE LEFT. TURN LEFT THROUGH THE STEEL GATE AND PASS THROUGH A RANCH YARD AND A GATE ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BARN AND CONTINUE ON THE MAIN TRAVELED ROAD FOR ABOUT 3 MILES. TURN RIGHT ACROSS COUNTRY TO THE BASE OF THE HILL AND THE END OF TRUCK TRAVEL. FROM HERE PACK UP THE SLOPE TO A ROCK FENCE THAT FOLLOWS THE WESTERN CREST OF THE RIDGE. TURN RIGHT ALONG THE FENCE AND FOLLOW IT TO THE HIGHEST POINT AND THE STATION.
