At the front entrance to Prairie Queen Elementary School is a plaza with plantings, and a colorful map of Oklahoma on the plaza ground showing the various Indian lands in Oklahoma's early history.
Next to the map is a piece of granite engraved: "Prairie Queen Arboretum / 1995 - 96 / Dedicated to all children". A bronze plaque above it tells of the significance of this piece of granite and the memorial. It reads:
"This bit of granite was once a portion of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. On April 19th, 1995, the building was destroyed by a terrorist attack. One hundred sixty-eight men, women, and 19 children were killed in this cruel, inhuman act. Pieces of the granite blown from the building were given to all Oklahoma City elementary schools as a remembrance of this most tragic event in our State's history. This plaque commemorates the Arboretum of trees planted nearby at the time and added in 2008 by the Prairie Queen Neighborhood Watch Association."
