The Texas Trail of Fame website (see link) has a depiction of Mr. Loving, as well as this short biography:
Born in Kentucky, Oliver Loving immigrated to Texas in 1855. Along with Charles Goodnight, he was one of the first Texans to drive cattle to outside markets; herds of cattle were sent west over what would be known as the Goodnight-Loving Trail. In 1867 while scouting the trail, he was attacked by Indians and severely wounded. His dying wish was to come home to Texas. After Loving’s death, Goodnight returned his friend’s body to Weatherford for burial.
