There are four plaques to different branches of the service, all World War I (Marines, Air Force, Army, Navy). The plaques are at each end of the bridge.

These plaques are on the Smithsonian outdoor sculpture list under (World War I Memorial to Marines). There is an image on each plaque. The air force is WWI biplanes, the army shows artillery firing cannon, the Navy shows ships, the marines show infantry with a grenade.
The writing on the plaques:
