Bart was born on 30 October 1895 and married Sylvia Gladys Brown, 12 years his junior, on 26 November 1927, when he was 32. They had six children, including Kenneth Eugene, Bill, Donald, Larry, Wanda (Wright), and Wilma (Bridges).

Sylvia, who also went by her middle name Gladys, passed away on 28 March 1985 when she was 77 years old and Bart was not quite 90. Bart then passed away on 30 October 1895, just a couple of months short of 103 years old.
