Famous person buried here: Albert Hamilton Latimer, b. May 25, 1808 d. November 27, 1877. He was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos.

The hanging tree stands in the northwest corner of the Clarksville Cemetery. It was first used to dispose of three murderers in 1837. The tree was used many times after that as an instrument of final judgment for some and as a threat to others.
