Profit's Harness Shop mural highlights the inside of John T. Profit's Harness Shop. Profit was a harness maker who came to Alberton in the 1880's. In partnership with his brother and sons he sold harnesses, farm machinery, carriages, gasoline engines, and gramophones.
As early as 1908 when some local fisherman began using engines in their boats, John T. Profit supplied them with gasoline, which was brought to Alberton in wooden barrels. A decade or so later when automobiles came to the area, Profit was the first in Alberton to install a gas tank. It was hand operated with a gauge being set at the quantity wanted by the customer. John T. Profit operated his business for forty-two years.
This is one of 16 murals located on the streets of Alberton. The mural was sponsored by the West Prince Art Council and the Alberton Business Assoc. Mural Committee.
