Located at 200 N.W. 18th Street, south of the State Capitol, the Allen Wright Memorial Library is the site of the State of Oklahoma's Dept. of Libraries.

Allen Wright was born in November, 1826 and died December 2, 1885. Highly education, he was Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation from 1866-1870. He was also an ordained Presbyterian minister. He translated the Chickasaw laws from English into their native language, developed a Choctaw dictionary, and translated the book of Psalms from the original Hebrew to Choctaw. He held many political positions and was instrumental in many of the early Native American treaties and U.S. Government negotiations.

The library is the repository for the State archives, State and Federal documents, and their Records Management department assists State Agencies in handling their government documents according to regulations. The Dept. of Libraries, out of this building, develops and assists libraries throughout the state, and oversees a literacy program for adults.

The public may do research with many of the government records, and there is an extensive online system to aid in this.
