In Boston's Hyde Park neighborhood is Fairview Cemetery.
The cemetery entrance is located at the junction of River Street and Turtle Pond Parkway. The mark is at the Administration Building where the main cemetery roads come together.
Fairview Cemetery was established in 1893 and was designed as a park-like setting. In 1912, it was acquired by the City of Boston. Today, it continues to accept burials. One of the most recent burials include former Mayor Thomas Menino. Others include J. J. Enneking, American Impressionist painter, James Monroe Trotter, the U.S Army's first black commissioned officer in the Civil War; and Brigadier General Edward Beebe Carrington, the frontier fighter and historian of Washington's military strategy.
The drives follow winding paved roads around hilly terrain. At the top of the central hill, is a Civil War Memorial.
