Bridge 6 On The Leeds Liverpool Canal - Netherton, UK - Moving Bridges on Waymarking.com

The canal is 127.25 miles long and flows from the inland woollen town of Leeds to the coastal sea port of Liverpool, crossing the Pennines along the way. Work on the canal started in 1770 and built in a number of sections and was finally completed in 1816.

The bridge is known as Netherton swing bridge and connects Aldrins Lane and St. Oswalds Lane.

This steel bridge replaced an earlier timber swing bridge bridge and was built in 1986 as a British Waterways standard steel swing bridge with aluminium deck planks surfaced with anti-slip epoxy bauxite surfacing. The bridge slewing and wedging sytems are power operated and interlocked with road barriers and road traffic signals. The boater operates the bridge from a central control console. link
