The James Lappin zinc headstone is within the People's Cemetery incorporated in 1883. Located in Queens County, the People's Cemetery is also known as the People's Protestant Cemetery. There are over 700 interments most with upright headstones.
This is a small headstone very typical of its era. The back panel is missing.

The cemetery was incorporated in 1883. The cemetery offers both traditional and cremation burials. Located in the cemetery is a columbarium niche that is surrounded by flower gardens and benches for quiet reflection. Over the past few years the cemetery has been landscaped with flower gardens throughout. Some trees which add to the beauty of the cemetery are over 130 years old.
Open to all denominations, the cemetery is governed by a board of directors who are responsible for its operation.
