The Rich Mountain Loop Trail is 2.9 miles long. It connects the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail with the Indian Grave Gap Trail. It is a section of the 8-mile Rich Mountain Loop. If you stop in the Cades Cove ranger Station and and ask for a recommendation for an 8 to 10 mile hike in Cades Cove you will be told about this loop. This waymark is for the trailhead on the Indian Grave Gap Trail. The other end of the trail is on the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail (WM9WH3) near the entrance to the Cades Cove Loop Road. The Indian Grave Gap Trail is flat to downhill from the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail to the Rich Mountain Loop Trail The Rich Mountain Loop Trail is mostly downhill all the way from the Indian Grave Gap Trail. If you are going to hike the loop, start on the Crooked Arm Ridge Trail. That way you will hike uphill for 2.1 miles instead of 5 miles. (That is the way we did it.)
